How do I get a hardship license in Oregon?

I was recently convicted of a DUII, but I need to drive to school (more than an hour away) and I have no public transit options near me. How can I get a hardship license?

To get a hardship license in
Oregon
, you’ll have to fill out Oregon’s Hardship Permit Application and obtain verification from employment, school, or your physician. The fees to apply for a hardship license include:
  • Application fee of $50
  • Reinstatement fee of $75
You’ll need to furnish a convincing argument to the convicting judge, explaining why a hardship license is in the best interest of yourself and society. The judge will then decide whether to issue a recommendation to you so you can apply for a hardship license—or not.
If you’re allowed to apply for a hardship license, you’ll also be required to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle.
Another item you’ll require if you are allowed to apply for a hardship license in Oregon—
SR-22
insurance, which proves you carry at least the state’s minimum amount of liability coverage.
There is no waiting period to apply for a hardship license in Oregon—you can apply immediately after a DUII conviction.
