How do I fix my car door if it won't close?

I got out of my car and when I closed the door, it wouldn't latch closed. It's a newer car, so it's definitely not just wear and tear—but is there any way to fix the door?

“New car trouble can be frustrating! However, if your car door won’t close, chances are it’s a simple fix.
In most cases, you may have hit the lock button as you exited the vehicle, which prevents the door from latching. To fix the issue:
  • Open the car door and locate the latch.
  • Hold the car door with one hand and use a flathead screwdriver to move the latch, pushing it toward the vehicle.
  • Spray some WD-40 in it and work the latch back and forth.
Remember not to slam the door if it won’t close, as this can cause damage to the mechanism that may not be covered by
comprehensive coverage
.
If you don’t have comprehensive coverage, you may want to consider adding it to your policy to protect your car against other types of damage. Using the
Jerry
app will get you customized quotes from top-of-the line providers so that you can choose the policy that works best for you. (If you find a new plan that you’d prefer, we’ll even help you switch.)
Hopefully this simple fix closes the door on your car troubles!”
