How do I fix my broken car key?

I broke the hard plastic loop on my microchipped car key that allows it to hang from my key ring. I don’t want to pay to replace my broken key. But without a way to attach it to my keychain, I’ll lose my key and have to replace it anyways. How do I fix my broken car key?

It can cost anywhere from $50 to $600 to replace a
lost car key
, so you should fix it before you lose it. Luckily you can fix your car key at home in 5 minutes.
Before you fix the broken plastic loop on your microchipped car key you’ll need:
  • Drill and drill bit
  • Finishing nail
  • Pliers
  • Superglue
Once you’ve gathered your supplies you can fix your key following these steps:
  • Drill a hole into the broken plastic loop on your key
  • Using pliers cut the finishing nail to the width of your key
  • Place a drop of super glue on each hole
  • Slide the finishing nail into the hole, closing the broken plastic loop
After the glue has dried you can securely attach your car key back onto the keyring. Whether you’re looking for DIY car fixes or shopping for
