Is there anything more annoying than a jammed seat belt? To fix a car seat belt that is stuck, troubleshoot the problem yourself or take it into a dealership if it’s not fixable.
The most common reason for a jammed seat belt is that it got stuck in the auto-lock function. To fix this, unclick the seat belt (while the car is stopped, obviously), then gently pull it forward away from the seat. Gradually release the belt until it’s back against the seat.
If this doesn’t work, get a closer look by removing the plastic covers that contain the seat belt. You may need a screwdriver or pliers. Once you are inside the compartment, pull the belt out entirely. You may discover a tangle or a stuck object is jamming the mechanism. Test the belt and allow it to retract before replacing the cover.
As a last resort, you can clean the belt with warm water and laundry detergent. Hook it over the seat and allow the belt to dry completely before retracting. If all else fails, call your dealership. There may be a manufacturer defect or
