How do I find out if someone has a car insurance policy?

Can I look up someone else's insurance information somehow? Someone hit my car, then they drove off before I got their information. I'm worried that they don't have insurance or something.

I’m sorry to hear about your accident! There are a few things you can do here.
To find out if someone has a car insurance policy, you can contact the DMV. If you got the other driver’s license plate number, the DMV can look up their policy that way. You’ll need to provide some personal details, including your contact information and the reason for your request, as well.
You can also talk to the police about the incident. Again, if you have the other driver’s license plate number, you should provide that info and let them know you were the victim of a hit and run.
If you’re still worried, go ahead and check with your own insurance to see if you have
uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage
. If you do, you’ll be covered in the event that the other driver is in fact uninsured.
After an accident, your car insurance premiums will sometimes increase. If you’d like to combat this, try out the
Jerry
app. Once you answer a few questions, Jerry can pull up your current insurance policy and help you compare quotes from other top insurers.
