How do I complain about a driving examiner?
Last week, I failed my driver’s test. I felt like I did pretty good but my examiner failed me for very minor infractions without even mentioning them during the test. Is this unfair? Can I file a complaint about my driving examiner?

That sounds like a really frustrating situation! We would have had to be in the car with you to determine if your situation was fair or not. But we can tell you how to file a complaint against your driving instructor if you’re suspicious.
- Write down any key information about your test, including the date, time, and location of the test and the instructor’s name.
- Give a detailed description of the test. Be specific about what you did and how the instructor graded you.
- Submit your report according to the instructions given by your local DMV.
The exact procedure for filing a report depends on where you are. Contact the supervisor of the driving school or your DMV for more information about filing a complaint.
Unfortunately, your driving examiner’s decision is final. It’s most likely that you’ll have to retake your test regardless of the outcome of your report. If your appeal is successful, though, you might receive a free booking for a retest.
