How can I tell when my car insurance expires? I think my insurance policy is set to renew but I’m not sure. What’s the best way to check?
You can check your car insurance renewal date by calling your insurance company directly or logging into its website or app. Most insurers’ websites dedicate a section to storing any documents related to your policy, including a renewal notice. Or if there is a message center once you’ve logged in, you may find a notice there.
Since your
policy declaration page
lists your term dates on it, you can also see when your term is supposed to end within this document. In most cases, your renewal date will be the same as your policy-end date.
Alternatively, you should receive a renewal notice from your
car insurance company
30 to 60 days before your policy renewal.
  • If you signed up for paperless documents, it should come in the form of an email.
  • If you aren’t enrolled in paperless, you should receive something via USPS mail.
  • If you can’t find any record of a renewal, you’ll need to call the company.
Keep in mind that your car insurance company ultimately has the final say on whether or not your policy is able to be renewed. It is possible that they deemed yours non-renewable. A non-renewal would mean your policy expires when your term ends. To avoid a
lapse in insurance coverage
, you’ll want to reach out to your insurer as soon as possible.
If you’re less than impressed with your current company’s customer service, consider shopping for new insurance quickly and easily using the
Jerry
app. Jerry gathers quotes from top name-brand car insurance companies in seconds and delivers the best deals straight to your phone for free. And if you choose a new policy or provider, Jerry will even help you sign up and cancel your old insurance for you.”
