How do I change the name on my driver’s license in Texas?

Congratulations on your marriage! The good news is changing your name on your license in Texas is pretty simple if it has legally been changed already.
To have your new name reflected on your license, you’re going to need to head to a Driver License Services office. You’ll be able to make an
appointment for one here
.You’ll need to bring documents for your appointment that prove that your name has legally changed. If your name changed because of your marital status, you can bring:
- A marriage license
- A divorce decree
- An annulment
- A letter from the Department of State Health Services
If your name change was unrelated to marriage, you will need to bring a document that proves your name change. A court order or an amended birth certificate is the most common form of proof.
Keep in mind that no matter why you changed your name the documents you bring as proof cannot be photocopies. They must be genuine documents if you want your name change to be reflected on your
driver’s license
