To change a 2006
Nissan Altima
headlight bulb, you will need to remove the airbox and radiator overflow to access the headlight assembly.
Begin by lifting your hood and securing it open with the hood prop. Adjust your headlight when the engine is cool so you don’t burn yourself.
On the driver’s side of the car:
  • Locate the airbox and remove the bolt holding it with a 10mm socket wrench.
  • Loosen the two clamps holding the airbox together and remove the air filter. Next, remove the airbox from the engine compartment.
  • With the airbox removed, you can access the back of the headlight assembly. Pull off the rubber gasket and remove the wiring harness by turning counterclockwise.
  • Release the retaining spring and unplug the electrical connector and remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • Push the new bulb into the socket, making sure that you don’t touch the glass part of the bulb.
  • Reattach the parts (in reverse order) into the headlight assembly.
  • Test the bulb by turning on your headlights to ensure that it is working. Put the air filter and air box back into the car.
To access the headlight assembly on the passenger’s side of the car:
  • Remove the two bolts that hold down the radiator overflow. Once the bolts are removed, pull the container up and out.
  • Remove the bolt from the bracket located on the fender.
  • With the bracket removed, you will see a large round cover. To remove it, turn the wheel to the left.
  • You should now be able to access the rear of the headlight assembly and replace the bulb using the same process for the driver’s side.
