How do I buy auto insurance without a car?

Is it possible to buy car insurance if I don’t own a car? My city has a car sharing service. I don’t own a car, so using this service from time to time would be very handy. I don’t want to be liable for any damage!

Yes, you can buy
car insurance
if you don’t own a car!
Just as the name suggests,
non-owner car insurance
is for people who don’t own a vehicle, but still need a policy or want extra coverage.
Usually, non-owner car insurance will be for
liability coverage
. If you’re renting a car through a car sharing service, they likely also have an insurance policy. Typically, this will cover any damage or accidents while you’re renting the car. You may also be able to add additional collision coverage through them.
Should you borrow a friend or family member’s car, a non-owner policy will cover you as well.
If this sounds like the right coverage for you, you will need to request quotes from insurance providers. Typically, companies won’t provide non-owner quotes online, so you’ll need to call around to determine who can offer a policy.
