I’ve read that depressants affect driving in a number of ways, but I’m not sure what they are. Do depressants affect driving and how so?

Depressants such as marijuana, alcohol, and opioids affect everyone differently. But on the whole, depressants can severely impair driving.
Some of the effects of such substances may include:
  • Impaired reaction times
  • Lack of concentration
  • Feelings of unfounded euphoria that encourage risk-taking
  • Diminished motor skills
  • Drowsiness
  • Difficulty in processing situations or information
  • Difficulty multitasking behind the wheel
  • Increased aggressiveness or negligence
Oddly enough,
distracted drivers
also display many of the same driving behaviors.
To protect yourself from unsafe drivers with whom you may be sharing the road, make sure you have great car insurance. But that doesn’t mean you have to overpay for it!
