How can you insure yourself to drive any car?

Is there a way that I can be insured to drive any car? I often drive my mother-in-law’s car, but we’re not on the same policy because we don’t live together.

Generally, insurers will extend coverage to any individual to whom you have given permission to drive your vehicle. This is called permissive useand is included in most insurance policies—so long as you drive the car fewer than 12 times a year. If you plan on driving the car regularly, it’s smart to get added to the insurance policy.
There can be exceptions to this, however. If a
driver is excluded
on your policy, they are not covered to drive at all. Additionally, permissive use does not cover people who live at the same address—you would have to add those drivers to your policy.
If you don’t own your own vehicle, another option would be to get
non-owner car insurance
. These policies provide liability coverage to drivers who do not own vehicles. These policies are also relatively inexpensive.
