How can I title a car in Ohio?

I just graduated from trade school in Ohio, and I want to finally purchase a vehicle for myself. I’m just not really sure how any of this works! How do I title a car in Ohio?

Congrats in advance on your new ride! I’m happy to say that it’s easy—the process of
titling a car
in Ohio is usually facilitated whenever you buy a new motor vehicle from any dealership.
The dealership in
Ohio
will handle the title paperwork for you. However, you will need to bring some specific information to the title office:
  • Application(s) for certificate of title to a motor vehicle (form BMV 3774)
  • Manufacturer’s certificate of origin (MCO)
  • Sales tax on the purchase price (sales tax rates will vary by county)
  • Payment for title fees, including a lien holder notation (if applicable)
If you have secured your title, you will want to look into a new car insurance policy if you haven’t already. To do this easily, check out the
Jerry
app—we’ll get you customized quotes from top insurers in seconds, so that all you need to do is pick the plan that works best for you. And once you pick one, we’ll even help you switch!
Congrats again, and happy shopping!
