How can I tell where my Toyota was built?
I’m trying to figure out where my car was built, but the information is not in the owner’s manual. How can I find out where my Toyota was built?

Finding this information is really easy! To learn where your
Toyota
was made, you can check its VIN. The VIN is typically in a vehicle’s front window on the driver’s side so that it’s visible from the outside. It’s a long sequence of characters, each with its own corresponding information. For all VINs, the first characters identify the location or country where the vehicle was not only made but assembled and distributed.
For Toyotas:
- The VIN will start with 1,4, or 5 if it was manufactured in the United States.
- The VIN will start with a 2 if it was made in Canada.
- The VIN will start with a 3 if it was made in Mexico.
- The VIN will start with a J if it was made in Japan.
VINs also contain info about a vehicle’s make, class, manufacturer, model, model year, and equipment.
