How can I save money on car insurance while I am away at college?

While I am away at college, I will be keeping my car at home with my parents. I know having continual coverage will keep my rates low, but I will only be using the car during the summer for the next four years. How can I save money?

“You will want to investigate a few options to save money on your
car insurance
policy. First, make sure you are getting all of the available discounts, such as:
  • Good student discount
  • Driver training discount
  • Safety features discount
  • Student away discount
  • Fraternity and sorority affiliations discount
If these don’t lower your policy enough, look into getting a storage plan for your car. As long as no one at home will be driving it, you may have the option to remove the
liability coverage
and
collision coverage
and keep just the
comprehensive coverage
for losses like fire, theft and vandalism. Then you can put the liability and collision coverage back on the car so you can drive it in the summer.”
