How can I remove car oil from my clothes?

I checked my oil at the gas station this morning, and I accidentally splashed my sweater with the dipstick. It is my favorite sweater! How can I remove car oil from my clothes?

I have had this happen myself, so don’t worry—you can get the oil out of your beloved sweater if you act quickly. The critical thing to remember is to not wash and dry your sweater until you have removed the stain by hand.
Follow these steps to get started:
  • Lay your sweater on a flat surface, like on top of a towel or piece of cardboard.
  • Rub a small amount of liquid dish detergent on the stain, just enough to saturate it.
  • Let it sit for five minutes.
  • Rinse with cold water and repeat until the stain is gone.
If that doesn’t work, you can try baking soda. Just make a baking soda paste by adding a bit of water to it, then let the paste sit on the stain for 10 minutes. After that, rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.
