Broken windows
on your car can be both dangerous and a pain, so I’m glad to hear you’ll be getting it fixed soon. The best way to keep rain out of a broken car window is to make a waterproof window covering out of a preferably heavy-duty plastic garbage bag.Prepare the plastic bag and tape by measuring the dimensions of your car window and cut the plastic garbage bag to fit, adding a half-inch on each edge—you’ll want to be able to pull the plastic tightly across the window frame without too much extra plastic over the edges.
Cut up eight to ten pieces of masking tape, each about two inches long, and use them to attach the plastic garbage bag to the window frame from the inside of the car. Make sure to tape along the inside and outside of the window for the best results.
When you tape against the rubber seal of the window, a stronger tape like duct tape might be necessary. You’ll want to be careful not to stick the duct tape to the car’s paint as it could cause damage when you remove it. When you’re done, be sure to add long strips of tape over each edge of the bag to help seal the edges against rain.
