Yikes! I’m sorry to hear about your car. That is definitely frustrating! But fortunately, there are plenty of ways to keep animals from chewing on your car wires.
Let’s look at a few possible methods:
Use traps: Put traps around your vehicle, including on top of the car wheels.
Try deterrents: Have you ever heard of putting hot sauce on your nails to stop yourself from biting them? This is the same concept. Spray peppermint oil or Pine-Sol on your car wires. Rodents don’t like these smells or tastes.
Park in a garage: This might not be an option. But if it is, then absolutely do it. It’s the best and most hassle-free way of keeping rodents out.
Remove food from your vehicle: Stop leaving garbage in your car with the intention to throw it away later. This goes for food and wrappers. Rodents are incredible at seeking out scraps.
Leave your hood open: I know this sounds counterintuitive, but rodents look for warm, dark places to nest. When your car’s hood is up, it will no longer be warm or dark. This strategy is best if you have private parking; otherwise, you may attract much larger pests (i.e., thieves or vandals).
If rodents have caused severe damage to your vehicle, you may be wondering if it’s covered by insurance. Jerry
