How can I get gum off of my leather car seats?
I’m an Uber driver in a big city, and I’ve been having issues with passengers leaving chewed gum and other types of sticky residue on my leather seats. I realize now I should have gotten some seat covers before I started; I thought people would appreciate some genuine leather seats, but I guess I was wrong. But before I get the covers, I need to get this junk off! How can I get gum off of my leather car seats?

I’m so sorry to hear about how your car is being treated—gum can be frustrating to remove, but it’s definitely possible. To get gum off of your leather car seats, here’s what to do:
- Carefully scrape any excess gum off of the upholstery. Make sure to use a dull edge, like the dull side of a butter knife.
- Mix a solution of mild soap (like dish detergent) and room temperature to warm water. You’ll want to mix the solution to create a lot of suds. If you’re mixing and suds won’t form, add a little bit more soap until you see bubbles.
- Apply only the foam with a sponge or cloth, and gently scrub the area until it appears clean. Be sure to pat the area dry with a clean, dry cloth. Repeat as necessary.
- Apply leather cleaner and leather conditioner. This will keep your seats in good condition going forward.
