How can I do a warranty check on my car?

How do I check if my car still has a warranty? I recently bought a used car and I want to check if the factory warranty is still in place.

“Congrats on your new-to-you car! Doing a deep dive on what your vehicle has and doesn’t have is a smart move on your part.
There are a couple of ways you can check if your
car warranty
is still in place, such as contacting the dealership or using your vehicle identification number (VIN). Keep in mind, however, that some companies do not allow for warranties to be transferred if the car is sold. Look into this when checking on the warranty.
Here’s how.
Contact the dealership: Warranty information is on file with the dealership from which you purchased the vehicle. Call or email the dealership to ask. They can also let you know what is or is not covered under your warranty.
VIN lookup: The VIN belongs exclusively to your car and can be used by any dealer of your car’s manufacturer (e.g., if you have a Ford, any Ford dealer) to look up your car’s warranty. The VIN’s location differs from car to car, but there are two common places to find yours:
  • The driver’s side of the windshield just above the dash
  • The inside edge of the driver’s side door
After you’re done checking your car’s warranty, it’s also advisable to make sure you have the correct car insurance policy in place—and aren’t overpaying for it. The best way to do that is through the
