How can I charge my electric car at my apartment?

I’m moving out of my current house in a few months into an apartment building. I have an electric car right now that I usually charge at public stations, but I was wondering, is there any way to charge my car at an apartment building?

Congratulations on the new place! Moving can be both exciting and stressful, with so many variables in place. It could be possible to charge your
electric car
at your building, but it would depend on the layout and size of your apartment building. If it’s a small building with only a few units and access to your own garage or parking space from the apartment, you might be able to use a Level 1 charger. These come with most EVs, and can be plugged into any 120-volt outlet. If you own your apartment and have access to a garage, you might want to consider looking into installing a Level 2
in-home charger
. It might not be possible depending on your situation, but it would need access to a 208-240 volt outlet, like those a dryer would be connected to. These charge cars even faster than Level 1 chargers—a difference between a full day and five or six hours for a full recharge. If your building is larger and has a parking garage, they might have some chargers available in the garage for everyone to use. They will likely be Level 2 chargers, or Level 3 DC fast chargers if you’re lucky. Looking for car insurance can be much like looking for a new home: confusing, time-consuming, and exasperating.
