How can I be covered to drive a car that I don't own?
I live with my friend and her husband, and they will let me drive their extra car whenever I like. But they don't want to add me to their policy since it will be expensive. Since I can't get insurance on their car under my name, what should I do?

policy and have the car registered under your name. There is a type of policy called
non owners car insurance
, but this is only for when you are renting or borrowing a car occasionally. It is not meant for drivers who have access to a vehicle for daily use. If they will not give you ownership of the car or add you to their policy as a driver, it would be in your best interest to get your own vehicle.
