Have there been any Mercury Mountaineer recalls?

I’m looking for a used luxury SUV so I can go camping in style this summer, but I don’t want something that’s going to break down easily. Have there been any recalls on the Mercury Mountaineer?

Unfortunately—yes. Discontinued in 2010, the
Mercury Mountaineer
has been subject to 23 recalls from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since it debuted in 1997.
Here’s a list of all the NHTSA safety recalls for the Mountaineer by recall year:
  • 2010: The driver and front passenger seats may move rearward, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident
  • 2008: Risk of fire with
    transmission fluid leak
when in contact with the catalytic converter
  • 2007: Certain curved tempered replacement glass may shatter and cause serious injuries in the event of an accident
  • 2006: Lack of grease on the output shaft gear, causing the gear to fracture when driving, which could result in a loss of wiper function after continuous use on the high-speed setting
  • 2001: Two recalls, including breakage of liftgate bracket due to rotation of the brackets and horizontal cuts on the thread of tires
  • 2000: Four recalls, including possible problems with an inoperative windshield wiper system, inadvertent side airbag deployment, lack of seat belt restraint, and tread separation in tires
  • 1999: Three recalls, including potential issues with the cruise control cable, brake lines, and secondary hood latch that could cause the hood to lift up during operation
  • 1998: Fuel lines can leak, increasing the risk of fire
  • 1997: Two recalls, including throttle body issues when operating for extended periods of time at highway speeds and faulty liftgate bracket welds
Make sure to keep these recalls in mind when you’re deciding on purchasing a used Mercury Mountaineer! Better yet, upgrade your
car insurance
policy to avoid potential
car repair
costs down the road.
