I’ve done some research but I can’t believe what I found. It can’t possibly be true that Coopers don’t get Android Auto. Does the Mini Cooper S have Android Auto?

Your research is correct! Android Auto has never been available on the Mini Cooper. Apple CarPlay is available as a paid extra feature.
For this type of connectivity, look for an aftermarket radio head. The good news is that most replacement radio heads for your Mini will only cost between $200-$400 and offer Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, plus navigation and other entertainment options.
If you decide to modify your car with a permanent radio swap, look into adding
sound system coverage
to your car insurance
