Does the Kia powertrain warranty transfer?

I’m about to buy a used Kia in a private sale. I want the current owner to transfer the Kia powertrain warranty to me, but she’s not sure if it’s transferable. Can you transfer a Kia powertrain warranty?

A Kia warranty is transferable. That said, when a Kia warranty transfers to a new owner, it goes from a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty to a 5-year/60,000-mile one at the time of the sale.
This warranty covers vital powertrain components like the transmission, axles, driveshafts, and, of course, the engine.
The good news is that the limited basic warranty, limited anti-perforation warranty, and roadside assistance can transfer to a second owner without any changes.
Kia warranty coverage typically includes:
  • 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty
  • 5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty
  • 5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty
  • 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan
But Kia warranty coverage for second owners changes to:
  • 5-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty
  • 5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty
  • 5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty
  • 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan
