Does the Kia Amanti have any recalls?
My wife just purchased a used Kia Amanti and I want to make sure any recalls that have been issued against it were all addressed.

You’re in luck—the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) has only issued one recall for the
Kia
Amanti.The recall was issued in April of 2009 and applied to 139,844 Sedona, Sportage, Sorento, Ronto, and Amanti vehicles manufactured in the 2006 and 2007 model years.
According to Hyundai-Kia, the stop lamp switch in these vehicles may have been damaged during the assembly process, potentially resulting in one or more of the following malfunctions:
- The brake lights fail to illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed
- The brake lights remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released
- The brake lights remain illuminated when the vehicle is started
- The shifter cannot be moved from the park position when the vehicle is started
- If the vehicle is equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), the ESC light may illuminate indicated “ESC OFF”
- If the vehicle is equipped with cruise control, pressing the brake may not deactivate the cruise control system.
Obviously, some of these malfunctions could be incredibly dangerous—so it’s best to call your local
Kia
dealership with your Amanti’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to ensure that it was not affected by the above recall, and to have the issue addressed right away if it was. Of course, if you purchased an Amanti from a model year that wasn’t 2006 or 2007, you should be in the clear.
