Does the George Washington Bridge have cash tolls?
I’m moving to the NYC area for work soon and I’m trying to get my transportation situation sorted out ahead of time. I’ll likely be living in New Jersey, but will need to go into Manhattan on a regular basis. I’ve heard that the George Washington Bridge has tolls, but how does that work exactly? Are they cash, electronic, or what?

Traffic in the NYC area can be quite a challenge, so you’re wise to figure out your game plan before you arrive! As of July 2022, the George Washington Bridge no longer has cash tolls.
There’s still a toll, mind you—but now the only collection methods are via an electronic E-Z Pass or through a bill sent in the mail based on pictures of license plates.
If you’re going to be a regular, an E-Z Pass is definitely the way to go. It’s not only more streamlined, but you get a discount as well! As for the toll itself, since January 2020 it has cost $16 per car and only cars going into New York are charged.
