Does renters insurance cover mice?
I am freaking out! I just saw a mouse run across my apartment floor. I know there are likely more hiding elsewhere. What can I do? Does my renters insurance cover mice?

Yuck! While generally harmless, it’s still frightening to see a mouse running around your apartment. Although it isn’t your responsibility to handle the mouse infestation, your renters insurance won’t cover mice.
In almost every home and renters insurance policy, rodents, insects, and vermin are excluded from coverage. Insurance companies consider damage and infestations from these pests as preventable.
Beyond that,
renters insurance
only covers your personal property, not the building or structure you live in. As a renter, it isn’t your responsibility to get rid of mice in the building or your apartment. Your landlord is responsible for the care and maintenance of your building, so you’ll want to tell them as soon as possible. They say for every one mouse you see, there are at least 20 more!
To stay safe and reduce the likelihood of mice coming into your apartment, consider putting your food in airtight containers and always clean up after preparing meals.
