Does renters insurance cover broken cell phones?
I was walking down the street today and dropped my phone. Now the screen is cracked. I know my renters insurance policy covers my personal property anywhere in the world. WIll my renters insurance cover a broken cell phone?

Oh no! That’s the worst. Your renters insurance covers broken cell phones, but only if the damage is from a covered peril.
While dropping your phone was an accident, it isn’t one of the
16 covered perils
in renters insurance. Since your renters insurance will only cover damage from these perils, you wouldn’t be able to submit a claim. That said, check with your cell phone provider. You may be in warranty or have insurance on your phone through your provider. If you don’t have insurance on your phone, many companies specialize in fixing broken phone screens. Normally, this costs around $100.
