Does my cosigner need to be present at closing for a car?

Does your cosigner need to be present at closing? My stepdad is going to cosign for my car loan, but he lives out of state. He's a busy man and I don't think he'll be available to come.

“It depends on your lender.
Some lenders may allow him to sign digitally or through fax, while others will want him to be present for a witnessed or notarized document.
Consult your lender beforehand to see if the cosigner needs to be present during closing.
Don’t forget that you’ll need
insurance for your new car
and the dealer will likely want to see proof of insurance before letting you take the vehicle home.
