Does home insurance cover foundation movement?

The foundation of my home has shifted. The house is old, and I assume this is just a byproduct of age. I think it’ll take some serious repairs to get my home back to normal. Will home insurance cover foundation movement?

Foundation shifting is not an uncommon issue in older homes. That said, foundation movement is only covered if the damage is caused by a named peril.
Homeowners insurance protects your property from sudden, unexpected damages. These are known as
named perils
in your policy. If your foundation shifted due to a tornado or storm, you’d likely have coverage for any damages.
In this case, since your foundation movement is due to age, you won’t have coverage under your home insurance. Repairs needed due to wear and tear, aging, or poor upkeep are never covered by home insurance.
