Does home insurance cover electrical fires?

I plugged my toaster into an outlet and it caught on fire! Nobody got hurt, but the toaster was destroyed and now the wall is all burnt. Will home insurance cover electrical fires?

Sounds stressful! I’m glad no one was harmed. Fires are a covered peril in most homeowners insurance policies, including electrical fires.
Named perils
are sudden, unexpected events that damage your home. You’ll be covered for any peril named on your policy. This usually includes fires, including electrical fires due to an outlet. You can claim the damage and get reimbursed. Take pictures of the damage to help along your claims process.
That said, you’ll need to check with your insurance company to confirm your coverage. If it turns out that the wiring in your home is damaged due to old age, you may have a harder time getting coverage.
