Does home insurance cover accidental damage to a TV?

We were watching an animal show on TV and my cat went crazy. It was really funny at first, but then they knocked over our TV! It was a complete accident and we have home insurance. Will our home insurance cover the accidental damage to our TV?

Oh no! We’ve all seen the videos of cats knocking over TVs, so I’m sorry it happened to you! While home insurance will cover accidental damage to a TV, it needs to be from a
covered peril
.
Covered perils you’ll typically see in standard home insurance policies are:
  • Fire
  • Smoke
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Freezing
  • Weight of ice or snow
  • Falling objects
  • Explosion
While it was an accident, damage from your pet wouldn’t have coverage under your policy. A home insurance policy only covers pet damage if your pet injuries someone else or damages their property.
To confirm your policy’s coverages and exclusions, look at your terms and conditions or speak with your provider. That way, you’ll know what coverage you have and any exclusions for the future.
After taking the time to review your policy, consider shopping around to save money on your home insurance with
