Does home insurance cover a well pump?

We have a well and have had issues getting water to our house. I think our well pump is broken. We have a home insurance policy, so I’d like to submit a claim if we can. Will our home insurance cover a well pump?

Water is an essential part of a functioning home, so getting your well pump fixed as soon as possible is important! Depending on the cause of damage and the type of policy you have, your home insurance may cover your well pump.
If lightning, fire, freezing, or any of the 16 covered perils caused the damage to your well pump, your home insurance should cover the repair. If your well pump stopped working due to age or normal wear and tear, it will not be covered.
That said, there are several
different types of home insurance
. If you have an HO-3 policy, it’s open peril, meaning it covers everything except what is specifically excluded. You’ll want to review your policy’s terms and conditions to determine whether your policy covers your well pump.
You can also always call your home insurance company for clarification.
