Does getting bad grades in school make my car insurance more expensive?

Can my bad grades really make their policy cost more? I just got my learner's permit and was added to my mom and dad's insurance policy. Mom keeps saying that if I don't get my grades up, I can't drive anymore because I will be too expensive.
