Berlin is a beautiful city—you’ll have a great time over there!
Germany does require an international driving permit (IDP) to legally get behind the wheel of a car if your license is not in German.
An IDP translates the information from your U.S. driver’s license, which prevents language barriers if you’re stopped by local authorities. And having an IDP can also prove useful in other situations, as it’s an acceptable form of identification in over 150 countries.
To get an IDP for Germany, visit the AAA website at aaa.com and complete the IDP application. Once you’ve collected the required documents—including two passport photos, your valid driver’s license, and payment for the $20 permit fee—head to your local AAA branch and submit your application.
German roadways often go without speed limits and are flooded with fast cars, which means that accidents can happen. To avoid unnecessary hassles, make sure you have the proper car insurance to keep you protected.
Domestic insurance policies often don’t cover overseas driving, but Jerry
