Does GEICO cover driving other cars?

I have a car insurance policy with GEICO, but my car is currently in the shop. My roommate said that he would let me borrow his car, but I want to make sure I’m covered. Will GEICO cover me if I’m driving other cars?

While it seems like a safe assumption that a
GEICO
policy would cover you if you drive someone else’s car, it doesn’t hold true. GEICO covers driving other cars, but only if the other car is a rental. Since you’re borrowing your friend’s car, you would actually be under their insurance policy.
In the future, a good way to remember this is that car insurance follows the car, not the driver. The only exception is if you were to rent a car. In this case, you could decline the rental car insurance and simply use your GEICO policy to cover you.
If you drive other cars routinely, you may want to have the other person add you to their insurance policy. And if they’re worried about cost, point them in the right direction: right toward the
