Does expired car insurance still cover you?

In most states, this means it is illegal for you to drive your vehicle because you do not meet the
minimum required insurance
. Even if your insurance expired a day ago, your vehicle would not be protected. Once your contract ends with your insurance company, they have no legal obligation to you. You’re no longer paying them for protection.
Most insurance companies also aren’t able to back date policies. If you let your insurance lapse and get into an accident during that time, you won’t be covered even if you reinstate your policy.
If you’re concerned that you might forget to renew your insurance, you should consider setting up automatic payments. This will automatically renew your policy at the end of the term. Should you decide to switch insurance companies, you still have the ability to cancel as well.”
