Does driving hard damage your car?

A lot of the guys in my area like to drive hard on the backroads around town. I’ve taken the occasional joyride, but I was just too worried. Does intense driving damage your car?

First, I want to assure you that there is no shame in sitting out of the “fun” every now and then. Driving fast and braking hard can be incredibly dangerous and can even get you into legal trouble. However, as long as you keep up with your car’s scheduled maintenance, the occasional joyride in a safe, isolated area should not permanently damage your car.
Stay on top of the following
scheduled maintenance check points
if you regularly partake in hard driving:
  • Oil and coolant levels
  • Tire pressure and tread depth
  • Tire rotation
  • Transmission fluid
  • Transfer case fluid
  • Inspect shocks and struts (especially when you notice a decline in smooth driving)
  • Brake pads
In addition to staying on top of scheduled maintenance, make sure to warm up your car and limit your driving times when you’re pushing the limits for a little fun.
Last but not least, you’ll want to make sure you have some
great affordable car insurance
