Does being retired affect your home insurance?

I recently retired. My home insurance is set to renew in two months. I haven’t gotten my renewal documents yet, but I’m worried my retirement may impact my insurance. Will being retired affect my home insurance?

Congrats on retiring! I hope you enjoy having time to explore other things beyond work. Being retired may affect your home insurance, but this impact is typically positive.
Some home insurance companies offer discounts for retirees based on the idea they’re home more and less of a risk. For example, if you’re home more, you’re less likely to submit a claim for theft or vandalism since it’s less likely to occur.
Retiring shouldn’t negatively impact your home insurance unless you plan on traveling. If you start spending winters in Florida, you’ll need a home insurance endorsement that covers your home while it’s vacant. Adding an endorsement or coverage will increase your home insurance.
That said, you can call your insurance company now to determine whether they offer any discounts for retirees. You may be able to get a lower rate for your policy renewal.
