Does Allstate insure log homes?
We just bought a vacation home in upstate New York. The property is in the Finger Lakes and it’s absolutely stunning. There’s even a log cabin on the property, close to a small lake. We use Allstate for our homeowner’s insurance, but does Allstate insure log homes? Should we go with another provider? And why don’t some insurance providers cover log homes?

doesn’t offer specialty insurance on log homes or log cabins in every state, and it can be a bit of a struggle finding a company that does. You’ll want to contact Allstate and ask them directly if they’ll offer coverage on your vacation property’s log home.Some companies, like

, will offer coverage for log homes only on a case-by-case basis, often rooted in the condition of the structure. Other providers will flatly refuse to insure the structure regardless of its condition.There are risks and serious safety concerns involved in building a home entirely out of wood/lumber, and the structure might be difficult for first responders to locate or reach.
