In most states, a distracted driving ticket will increase your insurance rates. A distracted driving violation will typically be added to your driving record and may even land you points on your license. Both of these are likely to trigger a car insurance rate hike.
To avoid getting a distracted driving ticket, you can do the following:
  • Pull over to the side of the road when doing tasks that take your hands off the wheel or your attention off the road.
  • Use the hands-free or voice-activated features on your cell phone.
  • Turn off notifications on your phone or set it to do not disturb while you’re driving.
  • Turn off your phone altogether. If it helps, you can also move your phone out of reach while driving.
