The Ford Maverick is a great truck—congratulations on your new purchase! In terms of transporting a kayak in your 4.5-foot bed, you’ll be happy to know that you can purchase a Yakima LongArm truck bed extender for even the longest of kayaks or canoes.
If you had bought a standard pick up like a Ford F-150 with a 6.5 foot bed, you wouldn’t need the extender, but you’d still need to think about how to tie it down.
Here are general tips for transporting a kayak in a pick-up truck bed:
Be sure to slide the kayak into the truck bed bow first.
Run straps through the handles at the bow and stern to secure the kayak to anchor points in the bed of your truck or the rails of your truck.
Put a red flag on the end of your kayak if it extends more than 4 feet from the truck’s bed.
Best wishes on your future kayaking adventures!
