The Ford Maverick is a great truck—congratulations on your new purchase! In terms of transporting a kayak in your 4.5-foot bed, you’ll be happy to know that you can purchase a Yakima LongArm truck bed extender for even the longest of kayaks or canoes.
If you had bought a standard pick up like a Ford F-150 with a 6.5 foot bed, you wouldn’t need the extender, but you’d still need to think about how to tie it down.
Here are general tips for transporting a kayak in a pick-up truck bed:
- Be sure to slide the kayak into the truck bed bow first.
- Run straps through the handles at the bow and stern to secure the kayak to anchor points in the bed of your truck or the rails of your truck.
- Put a red flag on the end of your kayak if it extends more than 4 feet from the truck’s bed.
