Do property lines include sidewalks?

I am hoping you can settle a debate I am having with my sister. She says that I have to keep my sidewalk free of snow because it is my property, and I can get sued if someone gets hurt. I think it is city property and not something I need to worry about. Do property lines include sidewalks?

You are both right, depending on where you live. Each state and city will have laws regarding whether private property lines include sidewalks.
If the city deems that you own and maintain your sidewalk, you would need to keep it free from snow and debris. If you don’t and someone gets hurt, you are financially responsible.
In other towns and more commonly in large cities, the local government is responsible for all maintenance and snow removal.
In most cases, the sidewalk is considered public property, but needs to be maintained by the homeowner. The best way to find your answer is to contact your local municipality.
