It’s always important to check expiration dates on documents before you travel. International driving permits expire one year after the date of issue.
In your case, you will have to apply for a new international driving permit (IDP) since yours was issued 14 months ago. But applying is easy! Here’s what you need to do:
Visit the American Automobile Association (AAA) online at aaa.com. Print and complete the IDP application.
Have two passport photos taken.
Go to a AAA branch with the following materials or mail the following materials to AAA: passport photos (signed on the back of both if mailing), valid U.S. driver’s license (photocopy of both sides if mailing), and payment for $20 permit fee.
Once you receive your IDP, you’re ready to hit the road wherever you land! Well, sort of… IDPs are valid in 150 countries.
