Do I need to replace the catalytic converter in my Jeep Commander?

The check engine light on my car is illuminated and the exhaust from my car smells different than usual. I’ve read that these symptoms are related to a malfunctioning catalytic converter. Do I need to have the catalytic converter in my Jeep Commander replaced?

With the symptoms you described for your
Jeep Comander
, a catalytic converter failure could be the culprit.
While you may be able to continue driving your vehicle, you should have the catalytic converter replaced particularly if you see blue smoke from the exhaust. This can indicate unburned fuel is entering the converter, which can cause serious damage.
Luckily, your catalytic converter should be covered by your Jeep’s emission warranty, and federal law requires manufacturers to replace defective converters for up to 15 years or 150,000 miles. Replacement coverage can vary between states and vehicle types, though, so it’s best to contact your local dealer for more information. As you take steps to maintain your
