medical payment coverage
, your insurance will try to recover the costs from the at-fault party. If the at-fault party doesn’t have enough
bodily injury liability
, they may use your underinsured motorist coverage
. When the insurance carrier covers your medical expenses, they do expect that the at-fault party’s insurance will cover what they paid out. If the at-fault party’s insurance does not cover the full amount of your bill, you won’t be required to pay back the difference. However, you will be required to pay for any additional expenses out of pocket.
The purpose of having insurance is to be protected in the event of an accident. In most cases, you won’t owe your insurance anything once they pay out a claim, especially when you’re not at fault.
