Do I need my own insurance to use a company vehicle for personal use?

My employer lets me use the company car for personal use, so it is my primary car and I keep it at my house. Do I need separate insurance or is their insurance enough to cover me?

“That may depend on how your employer’s auto policy is written.
If you are listed as a driver on the company’s insurance policy and are specifically assigned to that vehicle, you may not need another policy.
If personal use of a company-owned vehicle is excluded under the policy, then you would need to look into getting a separate car and policy for personal use.
If you were to rent a car, the
liability coverage
from your work car might not extend protection to the rental. In this case, you would want to buy
rental car insurance
from the rental agency.”
