Do I need my own insurance if I borrow a vehicle?
"Do I need to get my own policy if I know I'm borrowing someone's car? I'm 18 and will be visiting my family in a different state. My cousin said I could borrow their car while I'm visiting. Will I be covered under their insurance?"

“If you are borrowing a vehicle with permission, it’s likely you will have coverage under your cousin’s
car insurance
. Most carriers allow permissive use and will cover any accidents or incidents that occur while someone else is borrowing the car.
However, you should confirm with your cousin that their insurance will cover it. Some insurance companies require that a driver be added to the insurance policy to be covered.
If you are concerned or your cousin didn’t want to add you to the policy, you can always get a
non-owners car insurance
