According to my dad’s favorite mechanic, my car needs a new “wheel hub”. My partner says they’ll also need to do an alignment, but the mechanic didn’t mention that. Do I need an alignment after replacing a wheel hub?

Your wheel hub connects the wheel to the axle and suspension, allowing the suspension to play its important role while the wheel rotates.
